Request Smart Bodies

We’re looking for partners in health! Is your school interested in participating in a teacher-tested wellness program that is fun, innovative, and effective?  The extra time commitment for teachers is minimal, the materials will be provided free of charge to qualified partners, and the potential benefits are a healthier, more productive student body!

Smart Bodies is an interactive educational program designed to help prevent childhood obesity. A joint initiative if the LSU AgCenter and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation, Smart Bodies integrates classroom activities with hands-on learning to teach children how to build strong bodies and develop active minds

 Approved Smart Bodies schools will receive:

• The Louisiana Body Walk in-school field trip

• Body Walk student activity books for each student

• Motivational school assembly programs

• OrganWise Guys books/materials (integrated into the core curriculum)

• TAKE 10!^® curricular materials/teacher training for each grade, K-5

Schools will be asked to:

• Provide space for the Body Walk exhibit (40-ft by 50-ft).
• Secure volunteers for the Body Walk (see Body Walk section).
• Host the OrganWise Guys assembly program for K-2 and 3-5 grades.

Teachers in Smart Bodies schools will be asked to:

• Incorporate three (3) Take 10! activities per week into their academic lessons in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies for a minimum of 12 weeks.
• Read one OrganWise Guys book per week (highlighting different health behaviors) with their lessons.
• Utilize one OrganWise Guys video per month to assist in teaching and reinforcing healthy behaviors.
• Track Take 10! activities and classroom fruit and vegetable consumption on provided posters.
